Youth Soccer for Families New to Canada

Welcome to Canada and welcome to Crush F.C. in Burlington, Ontario. Youth soccer is a wonderful way for children to make friends and feel at home. This guide explains how the season, registration and payments work, and shows where to find our family pages in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.

How does youth soccer work in Ontario?

Children play with others born in the same year. Crush teams train during the week and play indoor games from October to April, when it is too cold to play outside. Families register for one season at a time and pay a season fee with a deposit and monthly instalments.

Players born 2017 and 2018 play 7v7, and players born 2015 and 2016 play 9v9. Our guide to 7v7 and 9v9 explains both formats.

What words will I hear?

Here are a few words families often hear in their first season.

  • Birth year: the year your child was born, which decides their age group
  • Dome: a large indoor building with an artificial turf field, used for winter soccer
  • Turf shoes: soccer shoes with short rubber studs for artificial turf
  • Shin guards or shin pads: protection worn under the socks
  • Evaluation or tryout: a session where coaches get to know your child
  • Instalment: one of the monthly payments that make up the season fee

Can I read the information in my language?

Yes. Our Families Hub, Fees, FAQ, Code of Conduct, Safeguarding and registration pages are available in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. Use the globe icon at the top of any page to choose your language. You can also write to us in any of those languages. The English agreement is the governing document.

What does my child need to start?

Your child needs indoor or turf shoes, shin guards, a water bottle and warm layers for the trip to and from training. The team uniform is ordered after you sign, and the club holds a sizing session. Our guide on what to bring to indoor training has a full packing list.

How do I register?
